You could technically get 7 perpendicular lines if they went into 7 different dimensions. At that point, since they can't be seen, you can call them whatever color you want.

I'd draw two perpendicular lines and claim the other five are unseen in our dimensions. But swear to god they're all perpendicular ;)

  • TuSkoFskY

To be precise - yes, you can have 7 perpendicular lines, but in >=7 dimension space :) whereas we live in 3dmiension world, it's pretty hard to imagine the higher dimensions(we can assume 4th one might be a time), and drawing it might be confusing :)

I understand his frustration, but the mistake he made is not asking what the problem they are trying to solve is. He should have asked "What do you want to do with the 7 perpendicular lines" and he could have given them a solution that does not involve 7 perpendicular lines. At the same time, they should to asked the engineer to design a product, a engineer does not design products. An engineer solves problems.

This reminds of my illiterate but greedy landlady. She used to increase the rent every month on various excuses but would depend on us for calculation of the electricity bill. After a few month we got tired. We paid her the extra rent but actually decreased it by miscalculating the electricity bill. She was happy. 😉

  • torjai tamas

To be fair, I always try to find a solution even for the stupidest requests. For this, i d probably say that we could make a 7D drawing represented in 3D in which case the lines would theoretically be perpendicular. We could draw a line with green ink and just mimic to draw a line with transparent ink. (in which case it would be enough to make a 6D representation). And voila. The hard part is just to make them understand that the result is actually what they asked for.

Wait, he could get up to 3 perpendicular lines if he goes up to 3 dimensions... 5 if he goes up dimensions again. It depends on what medium the customer requires the lines to be in (video would probably be the best bet and it would have to be a projection of a 5D object. The rest can be drawn in invisible ink -_- He's on his own on the color stuff. And yes, I'm a developer... And yes those are my meeting with stake holders and clients... All the time... Without fail -_-
